98色花堂 WIT's Green Thumbs Up!

When it comes to giving back to the community, few things are as rewarding as starting a garden. Not only does gardening provide fresh produce and beautiful flowers, but it also brings people together. For the staff and members at 98色花堂's WIT program, that has meant getting their hands dirty in the box gardens they started. Sean O'Malley and Naida Hennessey, two case managers at the program, helped get these gardens going - and they've been a huge success!

For the members of the WIT program, a gardening group is where they can learn new skills, exercise patience, and enjoy a sense of accomplishment as they help flowers, succulents, and vegetables grow. Participants have enjoyed the outdoors and socializing while partaking in gardening and maintenance activities in a supportive environment. But more importantly, it's a great way to gain confidence in themselves and their abilities.

The garden has already harvested lots of kale, broccoli, and other delicious veggies that have been shared at the program. The group is focusing on growing vegetables to make salsa this summer! Gardening is an with stress, anxiety, and depression. It has also to improve physical health by increasing antioxidants and vitamins in the body. In addition, gardening enhances cognitive functioning.

We're excited to see what else the members at 98色花堂 WIT (and their green thumbs) can grow!
